Intel Core i7-7740K Overclocked To 7.5 GHz On Liquid Helium Breaks 7 GHz Record Of The Core i7-7700K
The Intel X series CPUs were announced at Computex 2017 and these include the upcoming Intel Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X CPUs. The Intel Core i7-7740K is one of the kaby Lake-X CPUs in the series. Gigabyte set up an overclocking team in order to check out the extent of the new CPUs and it managed to great a couple of records in the process.
To give you some context the Core i7-7700K hold the record for being overclocked to 7 GHz, the Intel Core i7-7740K has gone past that and the overclocking team was able to achieve 7.5 GHz using liquid Helium. The Gigabyte X299-SOC Champion motherboard was used in order to achieve this record along with 6GB kit of Corsair Vengeance LPX 4,333MHz memory and a Corsair AX 1500i power supply.
Using liquid Helium cooling a temperature of -250C was recorded. The same CPU was used in order to set new world records in 3DMark03, 3DMark06 and Aquamark benchmarks. The AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition 11G graphics card and G.Skill Trident-Z 3600C17 RAM were used in order to break the records.
The team managed to reach number 1 in the entire world in 3DMark06 by achieving a score of 71,176 points. It should be noted that all this is great in theory but liquid Nitrogen and liquid Helium cooling is not something that the average consumers go for. That would not be ideal for everyday use. But the team has earned bragging right to say the very least.
There is much that we do not know about the performance of the upcoming X series CPUs but these numbers should give us an idea. You should wait for gaming reviews in order to find out more about these CPUs and whether or not you should buy one.
Let us know what you think about the records broken by the Intel Core i7-7740K.
