A new rumor has surfaced that Riot Games is preparing to host a new international tournament in the coming months, called League of Legends Rift Rivals.

It will pit all the regions against each other in five different leagues:

  • China (LPL), South Korea (LCK), and Taiwan-Hong Kong-Macau (LMS)
  • Europe (EU LCS) and North America (NA LCS)
  • Brazil (CB), Latin America South (LAS), and Latin America North (LAN)
  • Commonwealth of Independent States (LCL), and Turkey (TCL)
  • Japan (LJL), Oceania (OPL), and Southeast Asia (GPL)

The first “Heroes League” for the LPL, LCK, and LMS will feature a total of twelve teams, the top four from each region. It will be held in Kaohsiung, the port city in southern Taiwan, in July.

Without any further details and difficulty in understanding the translation of the source, we can only assume that the same tournament format will apply for the other four leagues. There is speculation that the winners or top teams from each of the five leagues will then join together for an international standoff.

According to the rumor, Riot Games will make the official announcement later this week on May 26.

The 2017 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational just wrapped up competitive proceedings on the weekend. It is the only international tournament, outside of the World Championship, that brings together the top team from each region.

The community has for long been requesting the developer to introduce more tournaments to allow different regions to test their skills against each other. Provided that the rumor is legitimate, Riot Games mighty finally be addressing that request.
