Platinum Games Working On A “Formless, Shapeless” New IP
Platinum Games has been busy bringing its console exclusive titles like Bayonetta and Vanquish to PC. The studio is known for developing over the top action games and now the studio has teased that it is working on an unannounced new IP under the direction of a new game director.
Speaking during a keynote at BitSummit in Kyoto, Platinum Games’ producer Atsushi Inaba teased that the studio is working on a “formless, shapeless IP” and added that he is not ready to talk about it now. He added that the new IP involves a new game director. No other details were revealed but it will be interesting to see a new IP from the studio.
He added that he is not sure if the studio will continue to develop on title per year but, the studio is looking forward to developing new games for its fans. He hinted that more info about the game will be revealed between now and the next time he’ll have a similar talk and would like to fans to look forward to it.
However, this is not the first time Atsushi Inaba talked about the new IP. Back in 2016, Atsushi Inaba noted that for Platinum Games to survive in the game industry it need its own IP, and it seems that this IP will be the one that the studio intends to identify itself with.
One big difference between Platinum and other studios like it is that Platinum doesn’t have any IPs to call its own. Even Bayonetta, which is closely associated with Platinum, belongs to Sega. Platinum must develop its own IPs and leverage them to have any success in the current environment.
What do you think this new Ip for Platinum Games will be? Let us know in the comments.
