Delivering on their promise of releasing Phantom Dust remaster before E3 2017, Microsoft has now officially announced the release date of the game.

According to Aaron Greenberg, Head of Xbox marketing, the Phantom Dust remaster will be releasing tomorrow on both Xbox One and Windows 10 as a Play Anywhere title, allowing progress to transfer between both machines.

On top of that, Aaron also announced that the Phantom Dust remaster will be available for free to everyone on both platforms. Since the announcement of Phantom Dust at E3 a couple of years ago, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the remaster as well as the remake. While the remake was unfortunately scrapped, the remaster of the original Xbox game still stayed in development.

Last month, Xbox boss Phil Spencer even shared a screenshot of the remaster showing the game to be running at a locked 30 frames per second on Xbox One. It is possible that the PC and the Project Scorpio version might run at 60FPS or an unlocked frame rate.

The Minimum PC specs required for the Windows 10 version of the remastered game have also been revealed although they do not mention the storage size required.

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33GHz | AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 | AMD Radeon HD 7750

Given that the Xbox One version of the game is expected to be around 8GB due to uncompressed cinematics, it is likely the PC version will also be the same size if not higher in the case of the game having higher resolution assets.

Earlier this month, we also received our first look at the gameplay of the Phantom Dust remaster showing a pretty decent improvement over the original 2004 release of the action strategy game.
