Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q And New Mobile GTX 1070 In The Works, Lower TDP, Lower Clock Speeds

Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q

The Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q has been rumored for some time now and the fact that Acer won’t name the GPU in their Predator Triton 700 laptop makes things fishier. All that Acer has said is that it will be a GTX 10 series GPU and we have seen that even though it performs better than a GTX 1070 is not as good as a desktop GTX 1080. 

The name Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q has not been confirmed yet and it is possible that these upcoming GPU will be called something else entirely. Rumor has it that these new GPUs will have lower clock speeds. This means that they will have lower TDP and lower heat output as well. This will help laptop batteries last longer.

According to reports, the Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q will still feature 2,560 CUDA cores but the frequency has been reduced. The base clock has been reduced to 1290 MHz. As of right now, there is no information regarding the boost clock of the mobile GPU. The power consumption will be reduced to 110W.

The new mobile version of the GTX 1070 is expected to have a TDP of 90W as compared to the previous 120W. Even though the Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q and new GTX 1070 are coming out with lower frequencies it means that notebooks will be slimmer and will last longer before you need to plug in.

We will have to see what kind of performance the upcoming Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q and the new mobile GTX 1070 will have to offer. We will let you know more about the performance of the Predator Triton 700 when it comes out. It should be interesting to see what these new GPUs will be capable of.
