Escalation Phases in the game directly affect the HP of structures, resources, and refunds which is why it is important to understand them and formulate your strategy in accordance with them.

One of the key elements in a Dawn of War 3 match is to understand the Escalation Phases and to capitalize them.

DoW 3 Escalation Phases are important in the sense that they dictate how you should approach a situation in the game. Escalation Phases occur after every ten minutes into a match and do not go beyond four.

You can also think of a game phase corresponding directly to an Escalation Phase. For instance, early game can roughly span across the first two Escalation Phases.

Dawn of War 3 Escalation Phases

In our Escalation Phases Guide, we have detailed everything you need to know about all four Escalation Phases that occur throughout the entirety of a match and how to capitalize on these phases.

Escalation Phase #1
In the first Escalation Phase, units refund 25% of the resources upon dying.

Escalation Phase #2
During the second Escalation Phase, units refund 15% of the resources, you receive +50% add-on resources, all the structures gain +50% additional HP, and the Listening Posts gain +25% additional HP.

Escalation Phase #3
During the third Escalation Phase, units refund 5% of the resources, you receive +100% add-on resources, all the structures gain +100% additional HP, and the Listening Posts gain +50% additional HP.

Escalation Phase #4
During the third Escalation Phase, units refund 0% of the resources, you receive +150% add-on resources, all the structures gain +150% additional HP, and the Listening Posts gain +75% additional HP.

As evident from the section above, losing a unit during the initial Escalation Phases is not nearly as devastating as losing it during third/fourth Escalation Phases. However, do not let this worry you and do not be afraid to lose some units in the early game if you can map control in the later stages of the game.

When we talk about the later stages of the game, the map control is arguably one of the most important aspects of the game due to bonus resources and no refunds.

Capitalize on the Escalation Phases

As we dive into third and fourth Escalation Phases, it continues to get harder for the losing players to keep up the economy and the winning players to take additional objectives.

While it is incredibly important to keep the Escalation Phases in mind and pay attention to the current objectives, it is equally important to see what other players are doing.

During the early game, you primarily need to focus on the Requisition Nodes to keep your army in a good shape.

When it comes to the mid-game, try to pay more attention to Power in order to jump to the next tech tier, to upgrade units, and to prepare for the late game. Finally, it all comes down to the selection of the units that players have at their disposal.
