# Hearthstone: Stonehill Defender and Its Discover Probability of Taunt Minions

Those scratching their heads over the discover probability of Taunt minions in Hearthstone, know that there is a devised formula to do the calculation.

Hearthstone received over a hundred new cards with the recent release of Journey to Un’Goro. Among them is Stonehill Defender, a must-have card in every Warrior and Paladin deck, and perhaps even some of the other classes as an unorthodox inclusion.

Stonehill Defender is a rare neutral minion that costs three mana crystals and arrives on the board with 1/4. Besides boasting a Taunt, it also features a Battlecry that discovers a Taunt minion for the player.

Here is where the discover probability of Taunt minions comes into play. A community member on Reddit recently did the maths to figure out the chances of drawing specific class taunts. The provided statistics should help players better understand how the card works and what it can offer.

**The Chance of Getting a Random Warrior Taunt**

- Average amount of class cards discovered 1.24
- Probability of getting a specific neutral card 4.64%
- Probability of getting a specific class card 17.66%
- Probability of getting at least 1 class card 81.56%
- Probability of getting all class cards 5.66%

Note that discovering a Warrior Taunt minion while playing the class is nearly 18 percent, and there is a nearly 82 percent chance of getting at least one of them. This means that a player is almost guaranteed to get at least one of the following:

- Cornered Sentry Taunt
- Public Defender Taunt
- Bloodhoof Brave Taunt
- Direhorn Hatchling Taunt
- Alley Armorsmith Taunt
- Ornery Direhorn Taunt
- Tar Lord

When moving to the Paladin class, note that it features fewer Taunt minions in comparison to Warrior. Hence, the discover probability of Taunt minions in this case is much higher in certain areas.

**The Chance of Getting a Random Paladin Taunt**

- Average amount of class cards discovered 0.85
- Probability of getting a specific neutral card 5.66%
- Probability of getting a specific class card 21.26%
- Probability of getting at least 1 class card 65.99%
- Probability of getting all class cards 1.24%

Paladin only has four Taunt minions, resulting in a fairly high chance of getting Tirion Fordring, one of the best Taunt minions the class has to offer. As such, it is only foolish for a Paladin to not include Stonehill Defender.

- Wickerflame Burnbristle
- Sunkeeper Tarim
- Grimestreet Protector
- Tirion Fordring

Besides Stonehill Defender, there is also the “I Know a Guy” card from the last expansion pack which does a similar discovery job. However, it is restricted to just the Warrior class. This gives the class two ways of discovering random Taunts, a valuable aspect considering that its Legendary Quest requires the playing of seven Taunt minions.
