Large Udyr Changes Arrive on League of Legends PBE, Two Abilities Reworked

The latest League of Legends Public Beta Environment (PBE) update brings a significant batch of Udyr changes that breathe new life into the Spirit Walker.

Riot Games is overhauling the champion, with two of his abilities being reworked to the tune of new mechanics that will likely affect itemization. In addition, the mana cost of his abilities are being standardized across all ranks to be based on the champion’s level. His jungle clearance speed just went up, ensuring that Udyr will be roaming the fields of justice faster than before.

Tiger Stance (Q)

  • Mana Cost: 47/44/41/38/35 ⇒ 50 at all ranks
  • [New] Udyr’s stance mana costs decrease by 1 each time he levels up
  • [Removed] Basic attacks no longer deal 15% AD bonus damage
  • [Persistent Effect Change] DoT Effect now also happens on every third attack after the first
  • [Persistent Effect Change] Base DoT Damage: 30/80/130/180/230 ⇒ 30/60/90/120/150
  • [New] New applications of Tiger Strike’s DoT on a target already affected now deals remaining damage instantly
  • Attack Speed: 30/40/50/60/70% for 5 seconds upon activation

The new “Persistent Effect” makes it so that Udyr will perform a Tiger Strike with his first basic attack and every third attack after that. However, if a target is already affected by Tiger Strike, Udyr will deal the remaining damage instantly with the next application.

This basically means that Udyr no longer has any concern with refreshing his damage over time. His new ability to instantly deal his “burst” damage in one go makes him a dangerous champion to face early on in the jungle. It goes without saying that Tiger Stance just became valuable tool to clear jungle camps faster than before. The raw damage is also going to play a vital role in taking down Dragons in the early-game before the enemy jungler can do something about it.

Not to miss the increased attack speed which will come into affect when Udyr decides to appear in a lane and split-push much to the annoyance of his opponents.

Turtle Stance (W)

  • Mana Cost: 47/44/41/38/35 ⇒ 50 at all ranks
  • [New] Udyr’s stance mana costs decrease by 1 each time he levels up
  • [Persistent Effect Change] First attack and every third attack after heals for 2.5% of his maximum health, increasing by 1% for every percent of missing health

Turtle Stance has never been a game-changing ability for Udyr. Sure, it has its uses but the life-steal has always been rather underwhelming. The new Udyr changes improve that by basing life-steal on his total health points. This makes him a lot stronger when it comes to not only sustaining in the jungle but also when dueling. Going with a tank-build will get more health out of each attack, while a damage-build relying on Tiger Stance will likely use the extra attack speed to finish the duel in no time.

Bear Stance (E)

  • Mana Cost: 47/44/41/38/35 ⇒ 50 at all ranks
  • [New] Udyr’s stance mana costs decrease by 1 each time he levels up.

Phoenix Stance (R)

  • Mana Cost: 47/44/41/38/35 ⇒ 50 at all ranks
  • [New] Udyr’s stance mana costs decrease by 1 each time he levels up.

The rest of his abilities remain the same more or less, only being affected by the new standardized mana cost across all ranks and mana reduction every time Udyr levels up.

The new Udyr changes should go live with the next League of Legends patch, penned to arrive at the end of the month.
