AMD RX 500

Although it was rumored that AMD RX 500 would be coming out in April, there is nothing new that we have heard about the GPUs.

Especially considering how close we are to April. I am sure there are others like me who expected to see more information regarding the upcoming GPU before launch.

New reports claim that the new AMD RX 500 series will be based on Polaris 20 and 14LPE/14LPP. The shift is not as significant as the shift to 14nm but you can expect a small bump in both performance and clock speeds.

14LPE/14LPP implies that the GPU will be more power efficient and it is possible that these GPUs will be coming to mobile platforms as well.

The AMD RX 580 will be replacing the AMD RX 480. It will also feature Polaris 20. The AMD RX 580 is expected to have the following specifications:

  • 2304 stream processors
  • 144 TMUs
  • 32 ROPs
  • 8GB of GDDR5 VRAM at 8Gbps

The AMD RX 570 and RX 560 will also feature Polaris 20 but the entry level AMD RX 550 will feature Polaris 12.

The 550 will have 640 CPU cores while the 570 will have 2048 CPU cores. The top of the line RX 580 will have 2304 GPU cores, the same as the RX 480 but will be clocked higher.

Even though these are new upcoming GPUs it is important to note that these are refreshed versions of the previous ones so you should not expect mind blowing power. Sure there will be some enhancements but these will be minor and most probably nothing special.

With AMD Vega GPUs coming out later this is AMD will have a complete range of GPUs to offer consumers. When it comes to the pricing of the AMD RX 500 Series GPUs, you can expect them to cause the same as the current RX 400 series GPUs at launch.

Let us know what you think about the AMD RX 500 Series GPUs and whether or not you are interested in buying one of these.
