Cliff Bleszinski is the original creator of Gears of War and is currently working on Lawbreakers. His game is going into beta next month but he couldn’t help discuss his other baby, Gears of War.

What [Gears of War developer The Coalition boss Rod Fergusson] did was give the people what that want. He did the J.J. Abrams Episode VII. I’ve watched Episode VII five times. Gears of War 4 released on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs last year and although it was a great game, we felt could have been much better if the developers took risks. It was a safe bet, a safe concept, and such approach is understandable because this was the first Gears from The Coalition, the pressure was on.

Cliff also noted that he almost brought Gears of War to Earth for the fourth installment. This was before the IP was squired by Microsoft. It would have a much riskier move, head over here to read more about the story.
