“Year of the Mammoth” Holds Exciting Changes for Hearthstone

Blizzard has outlined its plans for Hearthstone this year, revealing a ton of new changes that will keep the free-to-play card game fresh and exciting.

The “Year of the Mammoth” will officially commence with the upcoming first expansion pack of 2017, which is rumored to be called Lost Secrets of Un’Goro. At the same time, all cards that were previously released as part of Blackrock Mountain, The Grand Tournament, and League of Explorers will become exclusive to the Wild format.

Furthermore, certain cards from the Classic set are retiring to the Wild format as well. According to the developer, these cards are showing up too frequently and threaten diversity when it comes to deck-building. Blizzard is starting off with the following six cards: Azure Drake, Sylvanas Windrunner, Ragnaros, the Firelord, Power Overwhelming, Ice Lance, Conceal. Cards that are being added to the Hall of Fame set this year will return the full dust value to the player.

“Whether players are dueling in competitive Standard or Wild, we want our community to be excited about all of the various ways to play Hearthstone, and we hope additional official support for both formats will help to accomplish this,” said the developer.

Hearthstone features two game modes: Standard and Wild. In the first, players can only use basic and classic cards, as well as cards from expansion packs that were released in the last two years. In the second, everything goes.

As far as the addition of new content is concerned, Blizzard will not be releasing any separate adventure modes this year. Instead, the developer will release 130 new cards at the start of the year, with 130 more to following in the middle, and another 130 at the end.

Players will be able to buy these cards in packs, and will, at the same time, be free to create unique decks from all the past expansions in single-player missions.

The Year of the Mammoth will also be adding new Daily Login rewards for a limited time through which players can get dust, gold, and cards. In addition to that, a new Rogue Hero is being added to the Tavern. Maiev Shadowsong will unlock after securing 10 victories in Standard Ranked or Casual mode after the next expansion is out.
