Phil Spencer was asked by a fan on Twitter if Xbox One would support mouse and keyboard for Halo Wars 2. To this he said that these peripherals will not be supported at the game’s launch but would like to add mouse and keyboard support for the game on the console in the future.

@ryan89778 It won't be there at launch but this is support we'd like to add as it comes to the Xbox platform.

Xbox One backwards compatibility is one of the defining features of the console and according to Phil Spencer this feature needs to be preserved for as long as possible.

Backwards compatibility is not the only feature that Microsoft is interested in as the company has announced Cross Play multiplayer between PC and Xbox One for Gears Of War 4.
