Top Greatest 10 Video Game OST of All Time
It goes without saying that video games have successfully become an integral part of our culture. Similar to other forms of entertainment, it is hard to imagine the world without video games.
The gaming and eSports industries continue to grow and the budget of a modern AAA video game can easily match the budget of a movie. This basically ensures that everything from the gameplay to visuals, artwork, storytelling, and music is top of the line.
Greatest Video Game OST of All Time
Music that complements the game’s narrative and gameplay elements can drastically change the entire experience. I mean, I cannot ask for more refined music in games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or SoulsBorne series.
As you may have guessed by now, in this top-10 list, we detail best video game OST that was bestowed upon us all these years. The list is in no particular order because it is already tough to pick only 10 out of hundreds and thousands of amazing pieces of music.
The Hunt is Coming – The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3 is filled with amazing moments and spectacular OST to accompany them. One such moment is the Battle of Kaer Morhen. With all your allies by your side, it all comes down to battling the fearsome enemies you prepared to take down all game.
The entire sequence is thrilling, tiresome, and adrenaline-rushed which is also reflected by the music. And it ends at a quiet, emotional moment; like the calm after the storm.
Kairi/Hokuto Theme – Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha
This game is known for some remarkable OST. This is one of the prime examples of brilliant Capcom music back in the 90s. Even after all these years, the sequence remains one of the best I have ever heard.
Sadly, the series ended with Arika and Capcom parting ways. But the hope of seeing Kairi, Hokuto, Dr. Dark, C. Jack, and other EX fighters is still alive.
Main Theme – Dragon Age: Origins
I still remember firing up Dragon Age: Origins and couldn’t go past the menu because of this amazing soundtrack. The theme has a movie-type vibe to it which is not essentially a bad thing considering its storytelling is remarkable.
If you like medieval RPGs, you would definitely like this one.
Main Theme – The Last of Us
This main theme essentially chronicles the entire journey of The Last of Us from start to finish. Unlike other OST in the list, this is pure guitar sequence but successfully manages to capture the essence of the game’s narrative, post-apocalyptic environment, and emotional journey of the duo.
With The Last of Us Part-2 looming over the horizon, it is the perfect time to give the original game a try if you have not already.
Belmont’s Theme – Castlevania: Lords of Shadows
For some odd reason, this game remains to be one of the most criminally underrated games out there. Not only the game has really good gameplay mechanics, the OST is equally amazing. With a total of 128 tracks out there, it is hard to pick just one.
The game’s OST earned the Best Original Score for a Video Game or Interactive Media back in 2011.
Original OST – Final Fantasy VII
This is one of the most obvious choices out there, but you got to admit; the soundtrack of Final Fantasy VII deserves all the respect. Created by the genius that is Nobu Uematsu, the soundtrack is equally memorable and emotional that can rival the best of the movies out there.
From the amazing Jenova’s Theme to One-Winged Angel and Aerith’s Theme; the game’s OST beautifully captures player’s sorrows and joys.
Boss Theme – Sonic the Hedgehog 2
I’m still a fan of the game’s sound effects whether it be spinning, getting coins, or killing creatures. I think, they still make some amazing ringtones. However, nothing beats the amazing sound accompanying the game’s boss fights.
Try to give it a listen and tell me you do not want to give the game another run?
Main Theme – Super Mario Bros.
I mean, how dare I not include it in the list?! For me, this soundtrack represents my countless hours spent in front of the TV screen playing Super Mario Bros. There have been countless fan-made covers, but nothing beats this.
This is the Nintendo I love and remember!
Dragonborn – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
This OST alone tells you who brilliant of an experience Skyrim is! The OST perfectly captures the essence of the game and the experiences it offers to the players.
Put your headphones on, sit back, close your eyes, and relive your thousands of hours long journey through Skyrim.
Main Theme – Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
With so many Metal Gear Solid games out there, it is hard to choose one. But since I had to, it had to be this one. Those of you who are fans of MGS franchise, you might know of the emotions this OST brings.
If you just discovered this OST, try listening to other soundtracks as well, you will be surprised at how good they are!
