Square Enix and Marvel are teaming up for a multi-game project as the companies just announced, after some recent teasers.

The announcement came with a 50 second teaser trailer for an Avengers game with the keywords “Reassemble” suggesting the game might be set in a time after the Avengers have disbanded for some unknown reasons.

While it may seem that this project is linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe considering the ending of Captain America Civil War, it is actually a partnership between Square Enix and Marvel Entertainment not Marvel Studios, which is responsible for the movies.

So far, there is only a little bit of information available regarding this multi-game project. The first game will be based on The Avengers and the future ones might be based on something different.

Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal will be the lead developers on this project, although which developer will take over which game is currently unknown.

However, this little bit of exciting news also comes with some bad news as Square Enix has said fans should not expect the games any time soon as more details regarding the project will be revealed in 2018.

Considering it is Crystal Dynamics we are talking about here, the developers behind the Tomb Raider reboot and Rise of the Tomb Raider, it is possible that the Avengers game might actually be an open world title.

At this point, all we can do is speculate so players might be able to play as different Avengers in the game since the trailer was narrated by a female and there were hints of some obvious Avengers like Thor, Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America.

While the wait for the Reassemble project might be a bit too long for some, there are other Marvel properties to look forward to in the meanwhile. Hopefully, the first of these games does end up releasing in 2018.
