Western Digital 12TB And 14TB HDDs Coming in 2017

Western Digital 12TB and 14TB HDDs will launch later this year providing massive storage capacity for data junkies, gamers and data miners. Western Digital is one of the largest computer hard disk manufacturers in the world and it was founded back on April 23, 1970 and since then it has provided hardware from small storage capacity to recently announced 12TB and 14TB hard disks.

The two Hard disks come with gigantic storage capacity and are helium-filled. Below are the specs and details of Western Digital 12TB and 14TB HDDs:

Western Digital 12TB:

  • It is an eight-platter drive
  • It spins at 7200 RPM
  • Features 256MB of cache
  • 8ms seek time for reads and 8.6ms for writes
  • It is speedy enough than a mechanical drive
  • From day one, HDD will be available in SATA and SAS connections
  • Uses a perpendicular magnetic recording method
  • Available later this year

Western Digital 14TB:

  • It is also an eight-platter drive more like 12TB
  • It spins at 7200 RPM
  • Features 256MB of cache
  • 8ms seek time for reads and 8.6ms for writes
  • From day one, HDD will be available in SATA and SAS connections
  • Uses a shingled magnetic recording method
  • Can pack upto 25 percent more data on the same platter compared to a PMR drive
  • Available later this year

Besides Western Digital 12TB and 14TB HDDs,in a parallel news, recently Western Digital started a project bringing solid state drives (SSDs) to a higher level. The project is called WD Black PCIe high performance NVME SSD.

It will come out later this year. The WD black PCIe SSD uses Gen3 x 4 NVME technology, which aims at speeds three times higher than SATA solid state drives. The drives will come out in two capacities: 256GB and 512GB. This will become first choice for the hardware lovers who love ultra-fast boots and quick responses. The drive can be used also as secondary storage.
