Scalebound Cancellation: Not Only Rumors
UPDATE: Microsoft has officially stated that Scalebound has been canceled. This is what the company has told to IGN:
After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences.
Do you remember about Scalebound? This game was announced during E3 2014 and, since then, no concrete news were shared. We know that Platinum Games have had problems during the development phase, so the game was delayed multiple times, but it seems that there will be no future for it.
The game was removed from the Xbox official website and Microsoft has claimed that we’ll hear more about it soon.
Is Scalebound about to get cancelled? We don’t know, but it would very bad to lose such an interesting project.
However, Titan Comics is working on Scalebound Comics that are scheduled for 2017. These comics will focus on the protagonist and its dragon. Check marketing manager Ricky Claydon’s words below.
We are excited to team up with one of the best developers in the gaming industry to create Scalebound comics. These comics will expand the lore of the games to appeal to an even wider audience.
The Lore book, called “The Book of Sages”, is scheduled for 2017 as well, but it’s hard to say right now whether these comics and books will be released or not since they are strictly connected to the game.
Platinum Games is having a difficult period. Not only Scalebound development is in trouble, but also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutants In Manhattan has been delisted from Steam, PS Store and Xbox Marketplace.
What are they going to do? Will the game release?
At the current state we can only wait for official statements by Microsoft or Platinum Games.
Scalebound is an action-RPG game being developed by Platinum Games for Xbox One and PC.
