Mafia 3 Now Supports PS4 Pro – Less Tearing, Bumped Resolution, More FPS Drops

By   /   Jan 9, 2017

Mafia 3 now fully supports Playstation 4 Pro and has some noteworthy improvements over the standard console version.

The video – attached above – provides an in-depth rundown of all the changes included in the PS4 Pro version of the game, however, it is unclear exactly when the update went live.

Mafia 3 Now Fully Supports Playstation 4 Pro

Some of the changes added in the PS4 Pro version of the game include resolution bumped to 1440p in 4K mode, better spotlight shadow quality in darkened scenes, enhanced motion blur, less tearing thanks to v-sync despite more aggressive frame rate dips, and 1440p resolution downsampled to 1080p on non-4K output.

According to analysis, shooting causes the frame rate to drop to as low as 26 FPS in shotgun sequences. The game, however, manages to maintain 30 FPS most of the time. You can find a brief summary of changes, courtesy of Caayn from NeoGaf:

  • Improved motion blur.
  • Improved spotlight shadow quality in dark scenes.
  • Drops lower than the base PS4, but doesn’t tear. (v-sync)
  • 1440p (incl. downsampled to 1080p when you output at 1080p)
  • Shooting causes the framerate to drop (shotgun shots can cause drops to 26fps for example). Holds 30fps most of the time.

The standard PS4 version, on the other hand, has also received some changes which include:

  • Tears – adaptive v-sync.
  • Minimum recorded 27fps.
  • Framepacing issues have been fixed.
