This came according to research firm Gartner, Inc: Apple to outsell Microsoft devices in 2017. Moreover, Gartner has also predicted that the gap will continue to widen instead of shorten between Apple and Microsoft. The number of shipments over next three years is the key point of research. Plus, the report does not take Android-powered devices into account.

The statistics of research suggest that Microsoft sold over 260 Million Windows-powered devices. Which roughly takes 11.2% of market space. Meanwhile, Apple shipped 248 million devices. That is 10% decrease from the previous statistics figure of Apple’s shipment. Furthermore, the detailed statistics tell, iPhone sell decreased from 48 million to 45.5 million. iPad sales went down from 9.9 million to 9.3 million and Mac sale fell from 5.7 to 4.9 million.

Now, if Apple is losing every peny due to less unit sold per year in every iOS devices, why Gartner believes Apple to Outsell Microsoft Windows devices in 2017? Well, the answer is based on two facts: less and diverted concentration of Microsoft.

First, PC sales have greatly decreased since past few years. Precisely, in 2016, sold units reach at 268 million PCs. The figure is 7% reduction of what Microsoft achieved in a year prior to that. Plus, this fall in percentage went into a trend since years. Microsoft relies for most part of its sales per year figure on PC. Even though, Microsoft has entered into smartphone market, it still sits at 1% market share globally. If PC sales continue to fall in spiral down effect, so will the profit percentage fall down too. Plus, Apple on other hand dominates the global smartphone market, making Apple lead over MS in few years.

Second, Microsoft recently started to focus on cloud-based products, which is a distraction of focus. However, it is important to note that the research and predictions are based for Windows-based devices only. The research plots a chart which will be a hypothetical road map, check it out below.
