Recently, Nintendo revealed that there are two meanings of the console’s name. The first meaning of this name is linked to the ability of the console to switch between TV and its handheld screen. The second one is linked to the company’s hope of changing the way games are played.

Also, a report has emerged on the internet that suggests that the new console will be able to play GameCube games through its Virtual Console service.

According to the report, Gamecube support has already been tested and its working as intended and three games have already been prepped for Nintendo Switch. These games are Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion and Super Smash Bros. Melee.

The report further suggests that this Virtual Console service will also support games from other previous Nintendo consoles. There will also be an upgrade program similar to that available in Wii U that allows earlier purchases of Virtual Console NES games to be ‘upgraded’ for a small fee rather than being bought again at full price.

Nintendo Switch is scheduled to launch in March 2017 but no specific release date or price has been announced by Nintendo.
