Pokemon Sun and Moon questions

Several weeks ago, the Pokemon Twitter page for Australia and New Zealand announced that Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori, two of the lead developers for Pokemon Sun and Moon, would be answering a number of new Pokemon Sun and Moon questions that curious fans sent them on Facebook and Twitter.

Considering that the game releases next Friday on November 18 in North America, and November 23 in Europe, the Q&A session is likely needed for the developers to be able to address all of the curiosities that players have about how different the Alola Region is from every other Pokemon region in the franchise.

While there were undoubtedly a lot of questions, Masuda and Ohmori went through some of the Pokemon Sun and Moon questions they got the most often, mainly focusing around what inspired the Alola Region, and the new kinds of Pokemon that were in it.

According to Ohmori, what made the devs choose Hawaii as an inspiration for the Alola Region was because Ohmori goes to Hawaii fairly often in his personal life, and found the way that the sun bathed the islands, and how the moon reflected off the ocean, to be beautiful.

When it came to the various Alola forms of Kanto Pokemon that we’ll be seeing, the answer was that the developers were inspired by the Galapagos Islands, an island chain where a large number of different evolutionary variations of other animals come, influenced by the environment that they live in. For instance, why Alolan Exeggutor is so tall is because of Alola’s strong sun.

Other Pokemon Sun and Moon questions were about the Island Challenges and the trials that you will undergo on your journey there. According to Ohmori, the reason is because he wanted to show how in tune with nature the native Hawaiians lived with their islands; rather than using gyms and an Elite Four like the other regions, Alola will have you battle Totem Pokemon, Pokemon at the end of the challenges that are stronger than normal.
