Update: It’s Official!

The Xbox One digital version of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is currently free on Xbox Store.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Unlock Bundle contains Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. There are no details as to how long the offer or potentially a bug will last, but the free copies can be claimed directly through Xbox One or the PC link.

Xbox Store currently has Borderlands 2 listed under ‘Free Play Days with Gold’ along with The Escapists and Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings but there is no mention of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Keeping this in mind, it is most likely a bug as seen in the case of Fallout 4 a few weeks ago when the full version of the game suddenly went free.

Microsoft eventually had to remove the game from users’ accounts and compensated them with $10 Xbox Live credits. This is the worst that can happen so it is recommended that the games be added to user libraries at the earliest. If you get to keep, these are not bad games by any standard.

Earlier this year, Gearbox Software confirmed to be working on a new Borderlands game. However, back then, the studio wanted to put its entire focus on Battleborn and its DLC before returning to Borderlands. To read up more, head over to the post!

We will make sure to keep you updated if Borderlands: The Handsome Collection gets removed from the store or something. In the meanwhile, did you get a chance to add it to your collection, let us know in the comments section below!

Both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel are now available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4.
