Sony Pictures Gets Shawn Levy To Direct The Uncharted Movie

Uncharted is one of the most popular exclusive franchises for Sony, and the company has been trying to develop a movie based on this hit game series for quite some time. While the production on the Uncharted movie has been delayed few times, but Sony has started to make progress.

According to a report from Deadline, Sony Pictures has acquired the services of Shawn Levy to direct the Uncharted movie. For those who don’t know, Shawn Levy had been the executive producer for Netflix breakout series Stranger Things, and he also directed episodes for the series and will also direct episodes for Stranger Things season 2.

Levy has also produced the upcoming Denis Villenueve-directed Arrival, starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner.

While Shawn Levy will be directing the movie, Sony has recruited Joe Carnahan for writing the latest draft of the script for Uncharted movie. Joe Carnahan himself wanted to direct the movie but could not do it because of his busy schedule as he is set to direct Bad Boys 3.

The Uncharted movie is a co-production between Arad and Atlas Entertainment Production. The movie will be produced by Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, Ari Arad, and Sony creative exec Jonathan Kadin will be overseeing the project.

Uncharted is not the only game series which is making its way to the big screen, as Gears Of War movie is also in pre-production. Recently, The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson announced that the movie will be produced by Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark of Bluegrass Films.

However, details like who will be directing and the writers were not specified, also the release window for Gears Of War movie is currently unknown.

Also Assassin’s Creed movie is is set to release later this year, and Ubisoft is also working to develop The Division movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
