NX is Nintendo Switch, Handheld and Console Hybrid Confirmed!
Nintendo has finally announced its upcoming gaming machine as Nintendo Switch. After months of speculation, we finally know what’s next for the Japanese giant.
Nintendo has released a short video demonstration of the gaming machine. Looking at the device we can confirm that it is indeed a console/handheld hybrid. The official description reads:
Introducing Nintendo Switch! In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.
Nintendo has also confirmed some third titles for Nintendo Switch. The short video revealed NBA 2K17 and The Elder Scrolls Skyrim: Special Edition for Switch.
For Nintendo Switch to succeed, it not only needs third party support, but it needs to be easy to develop for. If Switch fails, Nintendo would be in a hole it may not be able to crawl out of anytime soon. Spending millions in the console market would just not be viable for the company anymore.

According to Serkan Toto, a Tokyo-based game consultant, that is indeed the most viable option for Nintendo if NX fails or only sees moderate success.
Another flop in launching new hardware should be a sign that Nintendo is better off providing its rich game title franchises to smartphones, Sony and Microsoft.
However, it looks like Switch has a decent amount of third party support for its release. Nintendo Switch is releasing in March 2017. A final release date is still to be confirmed but we should hear something in the coming months.
