backwards compatible Silent Hill Downpour

A new game has come to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list, in the form of the most recent Silent Hill game. The backwards compatible Silent Hill Downpour was the last Silent Hill game to come to various consoles, and might be the last one permanently after PT was cancelled.

Silent Hill Downpour tells the tale of Murphy Pendleton, a convicted felon that found himself in prison after the murder of his young son Charlie. Trapped in Silent Hill following a prison bus crash, Murphy finds himself in the town of Silent Hill, confronting his many past demons while avoiding the town’s monsters and the vengeful police officer Anne Cunningham, who wants revenge on him for the alleged murder of his father.

A backwards compatible Silent Hill Downpour is somewhat atypical for the Xbox One backwards compatibility system, which normally gets popularly requested games such as Bayonetta, Call of Duty, Halo: Reach, and Gears of War. Silent Hill Downpour got mixed reviews from critics for its combat and technical performance, though many were split on the story and atmosphere.

Unfortunately, a backwards compatible Silent Hill Downpour may be the last Silent Hill game we see ever again, considering Konami’s cancellation of PT last year after Hideo Kojima and Konami had a falling out during the production of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Hopefully we’ll be wrong in thinking that Downpour will be the last entry ever in the Silent Hill series (or, at least ones that aren’t pachinko machines), but until then it seems like the backwards compatible Silent Hill Downpour version will be the last bit of Silent Hill that we’ll be seeing for a good while.

Like all of the other Xbox One backwards compatibility titles, Silent Hill Downpour can be found on the Xbox One store’s Backwards Compatibility section for 19.99.
