EA Was Not In Favor of Titanfall on PlayStation: Respawn Entertainment
Titanfall on PlayStation never made it to PlayStation even though Respawn wanted it to be.
The original Titanfall never made it to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. To this day, it remains a Xbox and PC exclusive. PS4 came running out of the gate and every publisher wanted its game released on Sony’s system. It felt odd that EA choose not to release Titanfall on PS4.
In fact, developer Respawn was in favor of PS4 release but EA was committed to Xbox and PC. According to Respawn Art Director Joel Emslie and Chief Operating Officer Dusty Welch, the decision was never in their hands.
Joel Emslie stated:
That decision is one that was out of our hands — the EA decision with Microsoft. We would always like these to be multiplatform. The more consumers that can play ’em, the better. It’s not about money, it’s about the audience base, which is important.
Dusty Welch added:
We would have loved to have been with PlayStation from the beginning. But I think Joel made a good point earlier, which is that Titanfall 2 is a really refined, robust, well-balanced game, so we’re excited that the PlayStation audience, seeing it for the first time, is getting an incredible, highly-rated game.
Partnering with a publisher as big as EA often means that developers don’t really have a say in such matters. But like Welch mentioned, Titanfall 2 is a much more refined experience compared to the original game and it is coming to PlayStation 4.
Do you think Titanfall on PlayStation would have made sense in the beginning?
