CD Projekt RED: Cyberpunk 2077 Development in Full Swing Now
Now that CD Projekt RED is finally finished with developing the Witcher series, Cyberpunk 2077 development is in full swing, allowing the Polish developer to focus on their upcoming title, which we’ve seen very little of, or even heard much of anything else. CDPR is so focused on it, in fact, that more developers are working on Cyberpunk than on Witcher 3 in its most intensive months.
CD Projekt RED was made immensely successful by the success of the Witcher series, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was successful in two ways: the game sold very well and got critical acclaim, and also spawned a new card craze that rivals Hearthstone, despite its smaller fanbase: Gwent. Over 100 people are working on the upcoming free-to-play Gwent card game, but far more are working on Cyberpunk.
A few small leaks and job listings are all we know about what’s going into the Cyberpunk 2077 development, including piloting and hacking of vehicles, but otherwise CD Projekt RED isn’t telling anything, not even the game’s release date. According to one developer they “like to surprise”, so they won’t reveal it, likely until it’s almost done.
Not only that but we have no real idea of what the game’s plot will be, only getting little inklings of the world through the debut trailer that came out years ago. It’s based on the tabletop RPG Cyberpunk 2020, so we an also get a few things from that, such as society being dominated by mega-corporations after a period of socio-economic collapse.
We’ll likely be exploring the game’s main setting of Night City, a city dominated by mega corporations and crawling with various robots, cyborgs, and more as we go into a strange future filled with technology both wondrous and terrible.
Either way, hopefully CD Projekt Red is able to wrap up Cyberpunk 2077 development soon, because the longer it takes the more people are going to want to play!
