Top 10 Cosplays that Ruled 2016 – Widowmaker, Sivir, Velma, and More
This year’s San Diego Comic-Con ended with some of the most brilliant cosplays with saw in 2016. This article, however, includes but is not confined to cosplayers that appeared at San Diego Comic-Con 2016.
Top-10 Cosplays of 2016
From Overwatch to Mortal Kombat, League of Legends to Batman; these cosplayers have truly absorbed the characters they have cosplayed as. The cosplayers included in the article appeared at San Diego Comic-Con and ChinaJoy 2016.
Here are some of our absolute favorite cosplays from 2016 thus far in no particular order.
Kitana from Mortal Kombat X
Yaya Han is one of the finest cosplay artists I have ever come across. The artist recently cosplayed as Kitana from Mortal Kombat X and the details put into each and everything was truly astonishing. Apart from the costume and pose, the photography is excellent as well!
Think you can tell about the variation she is going with this Kitana cosplay?
Roadhog from Overwatch
As much as I hate Roadhog in the game, I never dared image the character to be this adorable. Everything from the costume to signature hook to photography is well beyond perfect.
However, I must ask you to refrain from commenting on her things… to be fake or original. This is not the kind of discussion we like to engage ourselves in!
Sivir from League of Legends
Sivir is currently our favorite champion in the meta and Miyuki is our favorite cosplay artist. Famous for making her own costumes, Miyuki nails everything she cosplays as. Her recent Overwatch and League of Legends cosplays are amazing as this Sivir cosplay from the popular MOBA exemplifies.
Currently one of the strongest ADCs in League of Legends Season 6, it looks like this boomerang can make short work of anyone dare standing in front of her.
Harley Quinn from DC Universe
One of the best cosplay artists to grace San Diego Comic-Con 2016 was none other than Tara Strong cosplaying as Harley Quinn from DC Universe. On top of it, the convention’s attendees had no idea who she was.
Having recently watched Suicide Squad, I cannot say that I prefer Tara Strong over Margot Robbie, but she is definitely the next best thing.
Widowmaker from Overwatch
Widowmaker is one of the best snipers in Overwatch and Jannet Vinogradova is the best Widowmaker cosplayer as evident from the images attached below. The Russian cosplay artist has truly nailed cosplaying as Widowmaker – from headpiece to her signature sniper, everything is top-notch.
All in all, one of most favorite cosplays from the list. I mean, look at those angles. Who wouldn’t like them!
D.Va from Overwatch
While we are on the subject of Overwatch, this D.Va cosplayer spotted at ChinaJoy 2016 appears to come straight out of the game. If you happen to love D.Va from Overwatch, you will definitely love seeing Miyuko cosplaying as the character.
ChinaJoy definitely brought out a ton of amazing cosplay artists with Miyuko easily in my top-3.
You probably know Anna Faith from her Frozen cosplay, but her Mother Gothel cosplay from the animated movie Tangled is equally amazing. Everything from her hairdo to makeup and outfit is nigh perfection. I never imagined Mother Gothel to be this good looking to be honest.
Hard to hate on her after seeing Anna Faith cosplaying as Mother Gothel, no? Would have been hard for Flynn to fall for Rapunzel.
Dungeon Fighter Online Cosplay
While we are primarily focusing on individual cosplayers, the Spiral Cats is a cosplaying group worth mentioning here.
Spiral Cats’ Tasha and Doremi recently cosplayed Dungeon Fighter Online in insanely detailed fashion as evident from the image attached above.
Geralt and Yennefer from The Witcher III: Wild Hunt
When it comes to lovebirds in video games, no one even comes close to Geralt of Rivia and Sorceress Yennefer. The couple is perfect for cosplay artists around the globe and Azure, Zephon has done a marvelous job of bringing the couple to real life.
These images have brought back so many memories that you are watching these images, let me go and play another run of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. And please, no Yen vs. Triss debate – the White Wolf does not approve!
Velma from Scooby-Doo Cosplay
It has been a long time that I watched Scooby-Doo, but this Humpasaurus cosplay brought a stream of memories rushing back and in an extremely pleasant manner.
Little did I know that Velma could be this hot in real life. Moreover, she goes out to prove that one does not need a lot of money in order to pull off a great cosplay. Everything from her signature glasses to cheeky nerdy outfit is very well done – ten out of ten.
These are some of the best cosplays of 2016 that we came across. If you would like to add anything, let us know in the comments section below!
