Blizzard Changed Description For Overwatch Loot Boxes Following An Outcry From Fans
Following an outcry from fans over Overwatch Loot boxes not functioning as they were described, Blizzard just silently changed some of the phrasings in the description.
For those who don’t know, Overwatch loot boxes are the source for the players to obtain cosmetic enhancements for the heroes. However, these loot boxes can be obtained through unlocking by playing the game or through micro-transactions.
The change followed after a heated debate on Blizzard’s forum and Reddit’s Overwatch community. The problem was that players were unable to buy Summer Games items, which are available from August 2 through the 22nd. And there are players who have bought a lot of loot boxes who are concerned about the change.
Before the launch of Overwatch’s Summer Games event, the description about purchasing Overwatch loot boxes described them as “Loot Boxes have a chance to contain credits you can use to acquire any specific cosmetics you want“.
Now the phrase has been changed to “Loot Boxes have a chance to contain credits that you can use to acquire many customization options“.
There is also a slight change to the checkout screen when purchasing Overwatch Loot Boxes. Originally it was stated “Each Loot Box contains four randomized items such as Skins, Emotes, Victory Poses, Voice Lines, Sprays, and Highlight Intros, as well as Credits that you can use toward unlocking an item of your choice“.
Now it states as “Though they can’t be purchased with credits, each seasonal Loot Box you receive is guaranteed to contain at least one item from our Summer Games 2016 collection”.
To this game director, Jeff Kaplan, has responded that the team sometimes wants to make some things “to feel rare and special”.
What do you think of the whole situation? Do you think Blizzard should let players buy Summer Games items through credits? Let us know in the comments.
