No Man’s Sky Crashes, Errors, Performance Issues, Bugs, Launch Issues and Fixes
No Man’s Sky has managed to develop a lot of hype for itself over time and now it’s time that the PC Master Race gets its hands on the highly anticipated space exploration game. The game just got unlocked on Steam and users aren’t stopping to post reviews even after 30 minutes of play. If early impressions are to believed, the game is doing bad performance wise and there are many who are unable to launch No Man’s Sky and are looking for workarounds already.
While Sean Murray is already tweeting the generic fixes on twitter, we are going to shortlist the common problems users are facing and their possible workarounds.
No Man’s Sky Errors, Crashes, Performance Issues and Fixes
#1 No Man’s Sky Crashes – Visual Rdist C++ 2010 Error
An 18mb patch for the game has already been made available so make sure that your game version is latest. If you are still facing the issue, try uninstalling the redist tools from your PC and install the latest ones from the game’s folder or from Microsoft’s official website.
#2 No Man’s Sky Performance Issues, Poor FPS
If your PC is good enough and meets the recommended PC retirements, there are a few fixes you can try to resolve the issue. First, it goes without saying that your GPU drivers should up to date. And also, if your GPU does not support 4.5 or above open GL, the game won’t work for you.
If you are using an SLI setup, try disabling one card and see if the performance improves as many users have fixed the issue by disabling the SLI.
#3 No Man’s Sky White Screen Crash
The reasons for White screen crash on startup should pretty much the same as mentioned in #2. If your GPU is not OpenGL 4.5, you are going to face that crash. For the time being, there is no workaround for that and all you can do is upgrade your GPU.
#4 No Man’s Sky – Either Steam isn’t running or you don’t have a suitable license
The issue could arise due to number of reasons. Luckily however, there are a couple of workarounds you could use. First, you can face this message if you are in full screen mode and you pressed Alt + Tab to minimize the game. It might not get back in and you might receive the given message.
If that’s the case, try running the game in borderless window to fix the issue. Also, if you are getting this message on startup, you should install/re-install the reidst version 2013 from Microsoft’s official website.
#5 No Man’ Sky – Stuck With E on Screen, Can’t Get Past
Press and Hold E for some time and you should be fine and game should progress normally.
#6 No Man’s Sky OpenGL Issues
As mentioned before, your card should meat 4.5 OpenGL and you should have the latest software installed for it. If that’s not the issue, go to Steamapps/common/No Man’s Sky/Binaries/SETTINGS/TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS and open the file in notepad.
#7 No Man’s Sky Startup Crash Fix
If you are unable to launch the game and crashes every time you start it, there is a fix you could try to resolve the issue:
- Go to steamappsfolder/common/no mans sky and delete the No Man’s Sky’s Folder
- Now Restart Steam and verify the game files and let the download complete.
- Try to launch the game again and it should work fine.
#8 No Man’s Sky Crashes with Missing .DLL File
If you are getting a crash with some .dll file then there are three things you should do. First run all the exetuables in the redist folder of the game. You should have 2010 and 2013 redists installed.
Also, sometimes a missing directx file or corrupted one could also cause issues so you should try re-installing that too.
#9 No Man’s Sky OpenGL and Startup Fix
Another fix you could try if you are facing startup crashes is run the game in borderless window mode. To do that open your steamapps\common\No Man’s Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS\TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML config file in notepad and set full screen to false and borderless window to true. That seems to have resolved the issue for some.
#10 No Man’s Sky Performance Issue Fix
There are a few things you could try to get rid of stuttering and get FPS boost. First, try lowering down your settings to medium. Also, if you disable fxaa and Vertical Sync from game’s settings, you will automatically observe a significant fps boost. It goes without saying that your GPU drivers should be up to date.
#11 No Man’s Sky FPS Drop In Ship Fix
If you only get FPS Drop or lag when you are in ship, this workaround could save you from a lot of trouble.
#12 No Man’s Sky Performance Fix for Laptops
If you are a laptop user and getting poor performance for No Man’s Sky, make sure that the game is being run using the dedicated (Nvidia/AMD) GPU instead of integrated and your Laptop is in performance mode instead of power saving. Also make sure that your Laptop is plugged in while you are playing the game.
#13 No Man’s Sky Static Audio Fix
If you are facing this issue or weird audio output, you should Go into your sound properties for your speakers and change the sample rate to something less than 192000hz. Restart the game and this should fix the issue for you.
#13 No Man’s Sky FPS Fix
Alright, let’s assume that your PC is not as strong specs wise and you want to improve the performance. What should be done? Well, disabling gsync option in the config file seems to have worked wonders for some. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\No Man’s Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS\ and open TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML in text document.
Find the value that says gsync. By default it is set to true. All you need is set it to false and save the changes. Restart your game and check the performance again.
#14 No Man’s Sky Another Reason for Startup Crashes
Apart from OpenGL 4.5, there is another reason that might be the cause of startup crashes. It’s the processor capability. SSE4.1 is required to run the game properly. So if you are using an old phenom processor, chances are that the game won’t work for you. There is a workaround though which you can find here.
#15 No Man’s Sky – Disable Shared Cache in Control Panel
If you are an Nvidia user or an AMD user, try disabling the shader cache option in your control panel as this seems to have fixed the performance issues for some.
