Dishonored 2: Dev Discuss How Assassin Ability Upgrades Are Different
For Dishonored 2 Arkane Studios is expanding what they setup in the first game. There are going to be two protagonists along with two cities to explore. Corvo will be getting new abilities along with old ones and Emily will be getting a complete set of new abilities.
Speaking with Gamespot, Dishonored 2 creative director, Harvey Smith, revealed the development team’s plans for Emily and Corvo, and also revealed that Assassin Ability upgrades have changed significantly compared to the first game.
Smith revealed that Corvo will have the same abilities he had in the Dishonored, but now has more upgrades to his abilities in Dishonored 2.
In Dishonored, you took the power, and there was one upgrade for it. Usually, that upgrade was: It works for a little bit longer, or it works a little faster. This time, we really wanted to do something more interesting than that, so we took the power, we gave you a good basic package of the power, and then we said, “How many different ways can we upgrade it?” We tried not to have symmetrical trees. We don’t care about, “Each [power] has three [upgrades],” or whatever. We say, “Whatever tree is under that power, based on what we can come up with, fine.”
He further said that Emily on the other hand will have a complete new set of abilities. Also the abilities represent their lives and personalities.
Corvo has Rat Swarm because he got his powers during the Rat Plague. You can look at Emily: she’s a ruler, so of course she has Mesmerize.
Recently, Smith revealed the reason for the protagonists of to be voiced in Dishonored 2. He said that having no voice for Corvo in the first game was “OK”, but giving them both voices makes for easier navigation through the game.
Dishonored 2 is currently in development at Arkane Studios and the game is scheduled to release on November 11 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
