The Evil Within Made Enough Money, Sequel is Possible
The Evil Within released 2 years ago and tried to take us back to the glory days of survival horror. It managed to make lots of fans wet their pants but in terms of gameplay, it felt limited and dull. Moreover, the story wasn’t something worth paying attention to.
However, The Evil Within made enough money for Bethesda to deserve a sequel. Whether we want to see another game in the series or not is a different story.
According to Pete Hines, both The Evil Within and Rage made a decent sum of cash for the company and are IPs that have a future. With that said, right now there is nothing in the works that is related to these two games.
Bethesda’s pipeline is chocked already!
I can’t talk about the unannounced stuff and what we may or may not do. I get myself in trouble whenever I do that. Even when we were talking about the Morrowind Remaster, if I come out and say, ‘I just don’t think that is going to happen,’ then people freak out. So I won’t confirm or deny stuff we may or may not do, as people jump to the wrong conclusions. But I do think both The Evil Within and Rage did well enough that we could make sequels.
Personally I loved Rage and had a tonne of fun playing it, but we have a lot of stuff in the pipeline right now so you will have to wait and see.
Bethesda’s focus is on Quake Champions and other unannounced projects for the time being. The Evil Within will have its day but fans will have to wait for some time.
