Overwatch Comic Book Will Be Published by Dark Horse
Dark Horse Comics has just made a lot of Overwatch fans very happy, after Blizzard announced that an Overwatch comic book will be published by the comic book company. The comic, a one-hundred-page graphic novel telling the origins of Overwatch, will be released sometime in April of next year.
Previously Blizzard had posted eight different comics related to Overwatch, telling about a day in the life of various characters. These included comics about McCree, Symmetra, Junkrat and Roadhog, Pharah, Reinhardt, Torbjorn, and most recently Ana. Many of these focused on various adventures before the characters became part of the game’s roster, while Ana’s focused on how Soldier: 76 recruited her back onto the team.
Right now Blizzard is ironing out the details of the Overwatch comic book with Dark Horse, but after that’s done it will likely be given over to whatever artist has been drawing the online comics.
If it truly is talking about the origins of Overwatch, fans of the game may finally be getting a glimpse into the first Omnic Crisis, the war between robots and humanity that saw the political climate of the Overwatch world become what it is now.
The original Overwatch team, formed from Soldier: 76, Reaper, Ana, Mercy, Torbjorn, and Reinhardt, was formed during this time to strike at the heart of the omniums that were pumping out robots.
It’s likely that in the Overwatch comic we can expect a lot of tense situations, whether they’re firefights against hordes of omnics or tense political situations as Overwatch forms, rises to the height of its fame, and then falls due to the conflict between Morrison (76) and Reyes (Reaper) that got Overwatch shut down.
Either way, eager fans will have to wait until April to read the comic for themselves and see how the story turns out. Not to mention, Blizzard has said that we’ll be seeing some crazy stuff in the future.
