Recently we shared with you the process with which Destiny players are going to be able to upgrade their accounts to the latest consoles from the legacy consoles. Since that is strictly related to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the current generation users might have skipped it.

However, there was an important bit of detail in the update provided by Bungie that relates to the PS4 and Xbox One users as well.

The developers have also explained the requirements of the account import process which every person will have to go through if they wish to upgrade to the latest generation of consoles. Alongside this, they have also clearly announced that PS4 and Xbox One users will also need to go through the “import” process regardless.

In other words, come August it is going to be mandatory for you to go through the Destiny Account Import process no matter which platform you are playing on. Here’s an excerpt from the announcement:

  • Beginning in August 2016, all existing Destiny accounts will need to perform the Account Import process. This is a process that can only be completed once per account which will bring a player’s account data forward and make it playable on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One console.
  • Destiny players that want to upgrade from a Legacy Console to the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will need to perform the Account Import as part of the upgrade process.
  • Destiny players that only play on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles will also need to perform the Account Import process to continue playing on their consoles.
