For the past year, Microsoft has been pushing to unify Xbox and Windows 10 gaming. Almost every single game features cross platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. The upcoming Forza Horizon will do the same but sadly, Halo Wars 2 isn’t using this feature.

Halo Wars 2 cross platform play isn’t happening, according to 343i.

It is a very odd decision considering the fact that Halo Wars is a perfect fit for such a feature. Its controls are pretty different on PC and Xbox One which is a valid reason for it skipping Cross platform play.

However, Xbox One is getting mouse and keyboard support soon so 343i will consider adding it down the line for the next Halo Wars game.

343 Industries studio head Dan Ayoub stated:

Cross-play is something we were looking at early on in development,Ayoub said. We’ve been in development since 2014. But as we looked at our timing and our design decisions, we focused on some different things that basically became Xbox Play Anywhere.

He added:

Cross-play is something we’re excited about potentially down the line,” he said, “and we’re looking at that for the franchise, but in the Halo Wars 2 timeframe, we’re focusing on Play Anywhere

Halo Wars 2 will release for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC under Microsoft’s pay one and play across all platforms policy. Get one copy of the game on either Xbox One or PC and get one for the other platform for free.

Do you think Halo Wars 2 cross platform play should have been there fr0m the get go?
