Mirror’s Edge Catalyst Tips and Tricks
Our Mirror’s Edge Catalyst tips and tricks guide details some of the handy tips that will help you during your playthrough of the game so that you never stop running. After all, you have a world to save.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst – How to Get MAGrope
The MAGrope in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is sort of a grappling hook that Faith can use in order to pull objects down, pull herself up, and reach otherwise inaccessible areas.
It is one of the most important tools in the game and is required to acquire some of the collectibles in the game.
In order to unlock MAGrope, you need to progress through the game’s story until you get to the main mission called Savant Extraordinaire which is received by speaking with Noah in Zephyr Transit Hub.
Once you have accepted the mission, you need to head over to Icarus in order to acquire the MAGrope. Do note that you will undergo a small training session in order to be able to use it. MAGrope in the game comes with two upgrades:
MAGrope Pull-Up – it allows Faith to reach high areas which are otherwise inaccessible
MAGrope Pull-Down – it allows Faith to pull down objects in order to unlock new areas and open shortcuts
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst – How to Alter Runner Emblem
While this does not have any implications in the game, this is something cosmetic and you can leave it be if you desire. However, in case you want to alter your Runner Emblem, here is how to do it!
The first thing that you need to do is to head over to http://www.mirrorsedge.com/ and sign-in using your EA credentials.
Once you are there, you need to click Profile and then View Profile. Here you will be presented with a list of everything that you have collected during the course of your journey.
While you are in this section, go through all the Runner Emblems that you have collected thus far and choose the one you want. And yes, in case you are wondering, there is no way to do this in game.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst – How to Alter Runner Echo
The Runner Echo is by default the red shadow that follows you around. Similar to the Runner Emblem, you can change this as well and without having to leave your game.
In order to do so, you need to head over to the Progression Screen and select Your Echo from the bottom-left corner of the screen. Here you will see all the available Runner Echoes at Faith’s disposal.
When it comes to unlocking new Runner Echoes in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, you can do so by Runner Kits. Once you have unlocked a few, head over to Your Echo tab and choose the one you like.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst – How to Roll
In addition to jumping, parkour-ing, and using her MAGrope, Faith can also roll in the game which allows her to gain Focus Shield and reach her objectives rather quickly.
However, do note you cannot begin rolling right off the bat as it requires a spare Upgrade Point.
Once you are allowed to spend your Upgrade Point without any restriction, you need to open up Progression Tab, then select Movement, and then select Skill Roll
As mentioned earlier, you can use Roll immediately after a slide which will allow you to acquire Focus Shield and reach your objectives relatively faster. It also comes in handy when it comes to going against enemies in the game.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst – How to Fast Travel
Unlike the original game, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst allows Faith Connors to fast travel anywhere across the in-game world. However, it is not as simple as it sounds and requires a bit of work.
In order to do so, you will need to unlock gridNodes related to each area of the game. Once you have done so, you will be able to fast travel anywhere around the city.
This is something that you should do as early as possible because it will allow you to save a whole lot of time, acquire collectibles around the world, and reach objectives faster.
You will be able to find gridNodes located around the map. Once you have found one, you need to head inside the building, reach the very top of the area, and interact with a computer there. Once you have done so, you will be able to unlock the gridNode and the fast travel point associated with it.
Another important thing that you need to note here is that you must avoid the blue lasers as these will trigger the alarm and call for reinforcements. As with other missions, you do not really have to engage enemies and can simply run past them.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst – Placing a Beat L.E.
This is more of a social aspect of the game which allows you to place a geotag anywhere in the world for your friends to pick up – essentially giving them sort of a challenge.
In order to place a Beat L.E. for your friends to pick up, you need to open up the Pause Menu, select Create Beat L.E., and then select Publish.
Once you have done so, you will be able to drop the Beat L.E. for your friends to pick up. Alternatively, you will be able to pick up geotags left by your friends. Depending upon the location of the geotag, it can be extremely hard to a walk in the park. Moreover, in case you are having some difficulties in obtaining a geotag, you can always bookmark it and come for it later.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst – Custom Time Trials
In addition to placing a Beat L.E., creating Time Trials is another great way in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst to challenge your online friends and interact with them.
Before we dive into details of how you can create Time Trials challenges, do note that you cannot do so while you are in a mission or wanted by enemies.
In order to get started, you need to head over to a starting location and select Create Time Trial from the Pause Menu. Once you have done so, you need to run towards an ending point while creating checkpoints along the way. The frequency of checkpoints depends upon you!
Once you think that you have found a decent ending point, you need to end your Time Trial there. Moreover, it is also recommended that you head back to the starting location, create your own best in order to challenge your friends, and then publish it.
However, do make sure not to create a course that requires specialized equipment such as MAGrope or at least inform the contenders. Like Beat L.E., you will be able to bookmark a challenge for later.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst – Best Skills
There are a lot of skills that you can choose from in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. However, it goes without saying that some skills are remarkably better than the others. In this section of the guide, I have jotted down a total of three skills that I think are the best and should be acquire as early as possible!
This is something that you need to get as early as possible. Unlike other skills, this is not about speed or climbing. This skill essentially allows Faith to stun enemies around her so that she is able to get out of tough situations and continue towards her objective.
This is one of the most important skills that you can unlock early in the game. This will essentially allow Faith to turn 90 degrees and 180 degrees. This is important in the sense that it is required to reach objectives faster, deal with enemies in a much better way, obtain collectibles, and reach otherwise inaccessible areas.
Skill Roll is another skill that can come in really handy in certain situations. This skill solely relies on speed and prevents you from slowing down. In addition to this, this will allow you to gain Focus Shield which is huge when it comes to dealing with enemies.
