Payday 3 Release Date Probably Wont Fall Anywhere Before 2018
Yesterday, it was revealed that Starbreeze has rebought the rights to the Payday IP from 505 Games. The former even announced special gifts for the fans on their return to the franchise, as well as a little thing called Payday 3…
Yes, the game is in development and we also have for you an update on the expected Payday 3 release date: the game is probably not coming out anytime this year or the next.
Payday 3 Release Date to Be Near 2018?
This was not directly confirmed by Starbreeze or Overkill Software, but the update that Starbreeze provided on buying back the rights did say a few things about the future. Among those things they have hinted at what we should expect.
When talking about Payday 2 and their plans to support the game Bo Andersson Klint, the chief executive officer of Starbreeze has said:
PAYDAY is very close to my heart, and has laid the foundation for Starbreeze success in recent years. We’re very excited to bring our heisters home to the safe house. To start with, we believe in the continued success of PAYDAY 2 and will support it for at least another 18 months continuing expanding the game.
So if Payday 2 is going to be in their focus for the next year and a half it means that they will probably not switch full resource to the next installment within that time frame – or at least, they will not want to release game during this time.
Hence, the Payday 3 release date could fall near the start of 2018.
The game itself was announced rather quietly by Starbreeze when they were explaining the profit ratios between them and 505 Games saying:
505 Games will retain a 33% revenue share of Starbreeze’s net revenues from future sales of PAYDAY 3 capped at 40 MUSD, and after Starbreeze has fully recouped its development and marketing costs.
It’s Starbreeze assessment that the price of 30 MUSD will be matched by corresponding revenues on the Payday franchise until such time Payday 3 is released in the future. Given the strategic value for Starbreeze to control its hit franchise it is both in the short and long term a sound investment.
Are you excited about this? Do you think we could be right about the Payday 3 release date?
