Overwatch Escort Maps Guide – Dorado, Route 66, and Watchpoint Gibraltar
Escort or more commonly referred to as Payload is an Overwatch game mode. In the game mode, the attacking team is required is push the payload to a delivery point. The defending team is required to halt the other team’s progress until the time runs out.
Similar to other game modes, Escort/Payload is played on three different maps. These maps are named Dorado, Route 66, and Watchpoint: Gibraltar.
Overwatch Escort Maps Guide
Our Overwatch Escort Maps guide provides an overview of all three Escort/Payload maps along with tips to play effectively on these maps.
Overwatch Escort Dorado Map
The first thing that you need to know is that the initial time is 5 minutes. 3 more minutes are added when the payload team reaches the first checkpoint and 2 minutes at the second checkpoint. Typically, a game does not last for more than 10 minutes.
While playing on the attacking side, the wall on the right hand side of the statue can be used to sneak up on enemies and flank them. Heroes that have wallrunning and climbing capabilities work really well in this scenario. You also need to gain control of the courtyard a little ahead of the payload. While pushing it, do make sure to send in your flankers ahead using side-lanes and clear the area ahead which can be really frustrating.
In addition to this courtyard, there are quite a lot of balconies and sniping positions on Dorado. Therefore, it is a good idea to have a Hanzo or a Widowmaker in your team and eliminate anyone who dares head outside without any shield or cover. Last thing that you need to know is you cannot go wrong with heroes like Reinhardt and Bastion. Reinhardt’s massive barrier will ensure that you do not die while pushing the payload and Bastion’s stationary turret will allow you to clear areas ahead so that the entire team pushes the payload rather successfully.

On the defending side, you cannot go wrong with heroes like Symmetra. While playing with her, place turrets near the exit point and defend the area around the ramp. While the ledges facing the base are pretty good for heroes like Bastion and Widowmaker, do note that enemies will expect this. Therefore, you need to make sure to continuously change your position.
On the attacking side, you need to spread out and try to disrupt enemy defenses as fast as possible. Flankers really shine on this map as they can spread out using numerous shortcuts available on the map and clear the defenses ahead. Heroes like Tracer and Reaper can easily create the difference between winning and losing the match.
When it comes to choosing tanks, you simply cannot go wrong with Reinhardt. He cannot only help the entire team progress towards the payload using his massive barrier, but can also soak up a lot of damage for his team to eliminate key targets and continue to push.
Overwatch Escort Route 66 Map
While playing this map as attackers, you need to be aggressive and push forward before defenders are able to find suitable positions. Heroes like Tracer and Reaper can head in fairly quick and disrupt the enemy line before they have a chance to react.
On the defending side, you will face difficulty in finding a suitable place to eliminate enemies from a distance. You will need tanks and heroes with traps to stay alive. Also note that there is no harm in retreating a bit if you think you cannot hold the push. During the last push, you need to stay close to your team and work as a unit or you will get decimated. Winston is one hero who really shines in these close-quarter combat situation. Make sure to pick him up in late game.
