New Batman Game Might Be In Development

After Batman: Arkham Knight released last year to general acclaim (except on the PC of course), that appeared to be the end of the series. While Warner Bros plans to release Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City through a remastered edition in early June, apparently that’s not enough. Rumors from an insider in Warner Bros have said that a new Batman game might be in the works.

Considering that Arkham Knight ended with a regular “And the adventure continues” ending, with Batman showing up in an alleyway despite (Spoilers!) Bruce blowing up Wayne Manor with both he and Alfred inside it, it’s not like they’re retconning the ending of the game out of existence. They’re not even going with a legacy character like The Dark Knight Rises did.

However, the circumstances here might be a little different, since (Spoilers again) Scarecrow did reveal Batman’s secret identity to the world on live television.

Whether it means we’ll have to avoid both the police and thugs while going through the game, the news in it will be crawling with questions like “Who IS the new Batman?” or we’ll just be addressed as “Bruce” by Gordon in conversations, it remains to be seen how the new Batman game will go.

There’s also the question of what the plot will be in this new Batman game. Joker is dead as of Arkahm City, and permanently locked away in Bruce’s consciousness at the end of Arkahm Knight.

Scarecrow is now likely even more insane than he was before after being injected with his own fear toxin.

Then again, there are a number of other faces that could still be Batman’s nemesis in a new Batman game, though some would be better choices than others. Ra’s Al Ghul for instance, with his League of Shadows, could be an interesting villain and a nice departure away from the prison thugs of the last two games. They could also provide a similar challenge with the Arkham Knight’s mercenary group.

Either way we’ll have to find out how that goes if the rumor turns out to be true and there is actually a new Batman game coming out.
