First Kojima Productions Game Will Use Third Party Engine, Good or Bad?
Hideo Kojima has confirmed that his upcoming Kojima Productions game will use third party game engine. To find the right game engine for his new game Kojima made trips to other studios.
Kojima confirmed this at Nordic Game Festival, Kojima said that in order for Kojima Productions to ensure the timely release of their new game, he had to go against his own preferences and use third party game engine to develop the game.
According to Kojima:
I actually think it’s better to make games using internal tools. As for my first title, because I want to release it to the people who are waiting for it, for that title we are going to use a third-party engine – the reason I am travelling around the world is looking for such technology to use.
Kojima and PlayStation 4 architect have been searching for the newest tech for their upcoming PS4 game, but they did not specify what kind of technology they were looking for. Maybe this game engine might be the tech they were looking for .
During Kojima`s tour, he visited Quantic Dream who are working on their new game engine. He also visited Crytek, the creators of CryEngine, and other studios as well.
Now the question arises that using a third party game engine for his new game is the right way to go? Well it depends on the game engine, if you look at CryEngine, usually games are not well optimized using this game engine.
However, Unreal Engine is a pretty good choice for developing the game, as the game developed using this engine are usually optimized.
But, if Kojima develops his own game engine, that would be the best way to go, however, as the Kojima himself said that in order to release the game on time the studio has to use a third party game engine.
According to Kojima his new game is going to be a AAA action title, which will appeal to both Uncharted and The Division Fans.
