The April 2016 NPD Sales figures are here and guess what, they show a complete decline in terms of sales. Whether it is hardware, software or accessories, everything has been selling much less.

As far as the winners are concerned in these conditions, Sony’s PS4 managed to stay on top of Xbox One and the rest while Dark Souls 3 stuck with the number one spot.

Although software sales touched $203.9 million, this was 21 percent less in a year on year comparison. This trend has also been seen in the rest of the areas like hardware and accessories.

NPD analyst Liam Callahan says that there are two reasons of the comparative decline namely “poor comparisons to last year’s new releases, and the poor performance of March launches in April compared to last year.”

Here’s a rundown on the top game sales:

  1. Dark Souls III (PS4, Xbox One)
  2. Ratchet and Clank (PS4)
  3. MLB 16: The Show (PS4, PS3)
  4. Tom Clancy’s The Division (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  5. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
  6. Minecraft (Xbox One, 360, PS4, PS3)
  7. Quantum Break (Xbox One)
  8. Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
  9. NBA 2K16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
  10. Star Fox: Zero (Wii U)

When it comes to hardware Sony, Microsoft as well as Nintendo declined to comment on the exact figures although Microsoft says that “April 2016 was the best month in the history of global engagement on Xbox One.”

Of course any statement without specifics is an attempt to dodge a ball, and once more they were doing so because PS4 has again sold more.

However, console sales have declined by 21 percent as compared to last year’s April, a major reason for which is probably all the limelight being given to Xbox Next, PlayStation Neo and Nintendo NX.

Last but not the least, Ratchet and Clank deserves a mention here because even though it is at number two on this list, it is the only PS4 exclusive on the top 10 to reach that far, the only Xbox One exclusive is Quantum Break which is down at number seven.

According to April 2016 NPD sales figures, Ratchet and Clank has had the best launch in the history of the franchise.
