Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Campaign Will Not Have Co-Op

It’ll once again be “every man for himself” in the Call of Duty games with the news that the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare campaign will not have co-op in it. While some of Call of Duty games had opportunities for players to go through the campaign together, it would appear that’s not going to be the case for Infinity Ward’s turn through the franchise.

Treyarch Studios’s Black Ops series of Call of Duty games had all been able to be played in co-op mode, most specifically in the third game’s campaign, which appeared to have been specifically geared towards it.

Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare series did have a co-op mode however, and even had special multiplayer Special Ops missions for multiple players to go through starting at Modern Warfare 2. However, it doesn’t appear that Infinite Warfare has any Special Ops missions, leaving co-op play to simply the game’s zombie mode.

Infinity Ward’s last version of Call of Duty, Call of Duty: Ghosts also had a playable co-op mode in the form of its Extinction mode, and its campaign.

Either way the lack of a co-op mode might be used to just cut down on development time, like how Infinity Ward appears to be reusing animations from the Modern Warfare series. If Infinity Ward has to work on both the Infinite Warfare campaign and its other modes, not to mention the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered edition, they may be splitting their effort and thus taking shortcuts.

There is something good to come out of the lack of a co-op mode for the game’s campaign mode; you won’t have to worry about a co-op partner causing you to fail a mission by running ahead of you or shooting you accidentally (or “accidentally”). Either way we’ll have to see how it works out when the game releases in November of this year.
