According to Hollywood reporter, Sega’s Shinobi franchise is being turned into a film. The movie will be adapted by Marc Platt Productions and Sega Stories International. Marc Platt , Adam Siegel and Sega Stories president Tomoya Suzuki will produce the movie.

In an official statement Marc Platt said:

We love the Shinobi games and believe that the world of ninjas has never been properly explored onscreen. We now have the opportunity to do just that. With Shinobi, we hope to make a film that honors the essence of the games and brings this fascinating world to life for moviegoing audiences.

This ninja franchise started in 1887 with the first Shinobi game. The series had a number of popular entries like The Revenge of Shinobi and 2002’s Shinobi reboot, but the franchise went into obscurity with the release of 2011’s Shinobi 3D.

Now the real problem adapting this franchise to movie is that there is almost nothing to adapt with Sega’s Shinobi. The series puts ninja Musashi against forces of evil, and Musashi has no personality at all. It is pretty much just taking the name of the game series and make a completely new story for movies.

Most importantly is anybody excited for it? Also movies adapted from games have a history of being bad but in this case there is not even source material for the movie, all it got is a name.
