In a world where we hate re-releases, Pokemon re-releases managed to sell over 1.5 million units worldwide, according to the latest Nintendo financials.

Sales numbers for Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow were shared by Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima during the company’s financial results meeting. Mr. Kimishima told investors that over half of these sales came from the western market which shows how strong this brand it outside of Japan.

1.5 Million sales exclude digital downloads and copies sold through bundles and special editions of Nintendo hardware. If we include that, total sales may very well touch 2 million.

Despite overwhelming sales of these original games, overall Nintendo revenue has fallen by 61% which is a major worry for the company. In fact, PlayStation Network alone earned more revenue then the whole of Nintendo.

The company and its console business was dented by poor Wii U hardware and software sales. All hopes are now affiliated with Nintendo NX that releases in March 2017. Nintendo won’t be showing NX at E3 2016 but sometime later this year its specs and other details will be revealed.
