Rust Update

A new update has been released for Rust which takes away players choice of choosing their gender and assigns the gender depending on the steamID of the player.

Rust is no stranger to controversy as they made in game “male part” sizes depending on the steamID and it looks like the developers are at it again.

The developer also stated the following regarding the update that:

We understand this is a sore subject for a lot of people. We understand that you may now be a gender that you don’t identify with in real-life. We understand this causes you distress and makes you not want to play the game anymore. Technically nothing has changed, since half the population was already living with those feelings. The only difference is that whether you feel like this is now decided by your SteamID instead of your real life gender.

And he also added:

This is really just the first pass of an ongoing rework of the player model. I’ll continue to add variations over the comings weeks which means you’re probably not stuck with your new face forever. We’ve got a decent synced workflow between the assets I make in Zbrush and the assets you’ll see in-game now, so it opens up a lot of scope to easily add or change features without a great deal of technical faffing in-between.

The update also includes improvements for ceiling lights as they faded quickly before, so the update increases the light intensity to the angel to avoid this.

Armor fixes are also included in the update as the last update screwed the whole armor system, it’s good to see the developers are taking feedback seriously.

Other fixes include medical fixes, as the syringe now gives 15 HP boost rather than 5 HP. Grenades are now quick to throw, resource gathering is made relatively easy and furthermore, maps have been added. For complete list of changes follow this link.

Rust is currently in Early Access to Steam.
