Fan Made The Legend of Zelda Remake Axed by Nintendo
The original Legend of Zelda was under development as a 3D fan-made remake but Nintendo got wind of it and has asked developers to shut it down once and for all.
It is exactly what Konami did with Metal Gear Solid remake, Shadow Moses.
The Legend of Zelda project was a tribute to the entire series that is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It was suppose to be a browser game but Nintendo asked the development team to take down the website.
The Legend of Zelda remake team announced that they are shutting down the project without resistance to avoid a copyright infringement suit. They will be removing all Nintendo owned assets before uploading their code to Github so others can learn from it.
Nintendo asked us to remove this site for copyright infringement. I guess Zelda30Tribute was a little too pixel perfect 🙂 We’re sad about that, but we get it.
We started this project because we love Nintendo and the joy they have given us throughout the years. From the start of development, we knew this result could potentially happen. Nintendo has every right to protect their IP. No complaints from us, we had a blast working on this tribute and made some friends along the way.
Over half a million players played their game and are excited for their future projects, sadly, this one will never be complete. What will their next project be isn’t yet revealed but details will be shared once they are ready to.
