Xbox NeXt Was Just an Internal Name of Xbox One, Not a New Console
In the past couple of hours, the gaming community has been pretty excited about a supposed new console from Microsoft called Xbox neXt which people speculated would replace the Xbox One.
The name of the console popped up on the resume of a visual designer at Xbox (check out the embedded image below) where he said that he has worked as the visual design lead for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Xbox SmartGlass and something called the Xbox neXt.
As soon as the news surfaced, fans were hyped thinking that maybe Microsoft has been secretly working on their countermeasure to the alleged PlayStation 4K.
However, breaking a number of hopes, one Microsoft representative has clarified that this is certainly not related to a future console like everyone is thinking. Instead, it is just an internal name of the Xbox One from the time when it was still being developed.
Xbox neXt was an old internal team name for a group that worked on releasing Xbox One and is not related to a future console. We have nothing further to share.
Let us remind you that this statement of Microsoft also falls in line with Phil Spencer’s clarification on their stance towards an approach like the PS4K. The head of Xbox had said some days ago that:
I don’t know anything about any of the [PS4K] rumours that are out there, but I can understand other teams’ motivations to do that. For us, our box is doing well. It performs, it’s reliable, the servers are doing well. If we’re going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be a really substantial change for people – an upgrade.
So yes, the Xbox neXt is not a new console or the successor of Xbox One.
