The Star Ocean series has consistently been praised by critics in both Japan and North America, and counts as one of the top sellers on the Japanese market. Star Ocean: The Second Story has even had its own manga and anime made out of it in 1999 (when the manga began and lasted until 2001 before ending without a conclusion to the story) and 2001 (with a twenty-six episode anime) respectively.

If you’re interested in getting into the Star Ocean series this might be your best opportunity, and there’s still plenty of time to pre-order.
