The Star Wars Battlefront VR version is a special release that is being kept exclusive to the PlayStation VR by SIE and EA, but it looks like the release is more than just one of the many games coming to Sony’s HMD. In fact, Sony is counting on this one and other exclusives like it.
This is so important to Sony that they are hoping for Star Wars Battlefront VR version to be the game that will sell their virtual reality headset despite the fact that the original version of the game has already sold over 12 million copies.
John Koller, the vice president of marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment was recently talking about their plans for the PlayStation VR as well as the content it will have, when he discussed how it was going to be one of the “killer apps” on their platform.
We are working with EA, DICE, Lucasfilm, and Disney to try and make that experience something so special and so intrinsic to what’s in many people’s DNA, which is, ‘How can I be in that world of Star Wars?’ Battlefront is going to be one of those games that will really show gamers what it means to be in the world of VR. It’s very special. And just by the nature of it being designed as a VR experience, it’s going to be very different than the PlayStation 4 game.
“Star Wars is a great example of something that we will really own during that launch period,” he says while talking about how they think the sales of PlayStation VR will be affected by this.
We are really pumped to finally be inside the world of Star Wars, and since it is exclusive to PS4 right now, we can already see millions of others feeling the same for the PSVR too.
