Lore of the Souls Games Explained, Bloodborne Included
It’s no secret by now that the lore of the Souls games is a very odd and badly-explained thing. The descriptions of items and armor and weapons allude to various other kingdoms and lands beyond the settings of each of the Souls games, but the games contain very little exposition, forcing you to form your own opinions on what the more detailed portions of the plot were.
Many Souls players on YouTube make their livings on videos that explain the finer details of gameplay and the lore of the Souls games.
MoonlightButterfly (named after a boss in Dark Souls) has assisted players looking for help in figuring out the lore of the Souls games with a quartet of videos that help to explain the lore as well as they can: these four videos are each for Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls II, and Bloodborne. Each of these videos are a feature-length machinima film, with all the sorts of exposition needed to give as much context as possible.
Would you like to find out about the origins of each of the Great Lords of Lordran, who helped Gwyn, the Lord of Sunlight defeat the Everlasting Dragons, or how Artorias the Abysswalker, Gwyn’s greatest knight, died?
Do you want to know the circumstances of the kingdom of Drangleic’s devastating war against the Giants, and where the evil queen Nashandra came from?
What about delving into the depths of the ruined tombs that serve as Bloodborne’s Chalice Dungeons, secreted deep beneath Yharnam in tunnels older than the city itself, and the origin of the Healing Church and its worship of the Great Ones?
Or what about learning about the areas of Boletaria, how the infamous Valley of Defilement was used to remove Boletaria’s undesirables and how the Old Monk of the Tower of Latria took over the place, turning it from a place of learning into the hellish prison that we see it as?
All of these questions can be answered with varying degrees of satisfaction by MoonlightButterfly, in the videos linked above.
