Xbox One Hardware Upgrades are in Microsoft’s Plans, Says Phil Spencer
The biggest dilemma of the console gamers is that once you buy a home console, you stay at that level of hardware power until another better model is released which you can replace the old one with. However, it looks like we could soon get Xbox One hardware upgrades!
The static life of console generations has also been a selling point for the console makers because alternatively, in the PC gaming world there is no end to what you should own. No specs are always the best and despite having an edge over consoles, gaming PCs are in constant need of upgrades.
A number of gamers, in order to avoid the hassle, decide to buy a console because this way they know that for a set period of time, a set number of games will be playable for them at a set level of performance.
However, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox thinks that continuous innovation is missing from consoles and that Microsoft plans on changing that by introducing Xbox One hardware upgrades in the future.
When you look at the console space, I believe we will see more hardware innovation in the console space than we’ve ever seen. You’ll actually see us come out with new hardware capability during a generation allowing the same games to run backward and forward compatible because we have a Universal Windows Application running on top of the Universal Windows Platform that allows us to focus more and more on hardware innovation without invalidating the games that run on that platform.
We are not sure how seriously Microsoft is going to follow this plan, but if they do it could dynamically change the way consoles and console wars are looked upon.
